May 18th: Spring has Sprung at the Severs!
A few weeks ago a wonderful man from our church, "Mr. Lee", came to help me get my garden started. This was a great cause for excitement amongst the children as Logan and Dylan don't remember the garden I had a few years ago. The day before, we had gone to Lowes to purchase learn about the different vegetables we wanted to plant and their excitement was catching! After an hour or two of tilling, we were ready to plant! Logan (4) and Dylan (2), along with their cousin Luke (3) all pitched in digging holes, planting the already started tomatos, peppers, cantelope and squash while learning about how the soil will help them to grow and soon we'd see some little sprouts from the broccoli and carrot seeds we'd planted. It was such a fun time with the kids and now, several weeks into it, they still enjoy helping me keep out the weeds and water. We've recently watched our seedlings sprout and the boys are super excited to plant our pumpkin seeds in June and grow their own Halloween pumpkins!! If you've been considering getting your kids involved with a garden, don't hesitate! Let them get involved! I'm all about teaching them through fun, and I'm hoping that by watching their veggies grow, they'll be excited to harvest and eat them as well! Happy Gardening! Thanks Mr. Lee!!
I LOVE SPRING! So where is it? 4 weeks ago they were calling for another inch of snow, and now it's 91 degrees outside! Since when did we go from Winter to Summer? Ugh! Not that I'm complaining. Today we dug out the dusty boxes of Summer clothes and although I don't fit into any of mine (let's not go there...) we all sported our plaids and summer stripes! I took advantage of my extra income from Thirty One this month and stocked up at the Old Navy 40% off sale! Yay! But it was a day of enjoying a visit from family, laughing with Dylan on our bike ride through the neighborhood, and eating melting snickers bars out of Easter eggs. What could be better!? Tomorrow, I will kick off my diet and exercise program so I can shop all over again next month, but for now I will enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!
